Bwihangane Birindwa Ahadi
I am Bwihangane Birindwa Ahadi (Ph.D) from the Université Evangelique en Afrique in the Democratic Republic of Congo. My research interest is mainly in the fields of Molecular Virology, Vaccinology, Functional Genomics, Epidemiology of both animals and human infectious diseases and Bioinformatics. I am currently studying the molecular biological characteristics of emerging and re-emerging viruses of public health and food security importance focusing on the development of new generation and tailored biological controls and/or vaccines against viral diseases. I’m more inspired in One Health approach to address health issues in across the plant, animal, human and environment interface. My vision for Africa Agriculture is to value orphan crops and cheap technologies that will help farmers to increase the yield and generate more income.
Bioinformatics is not only a tool but a science on its own and help researchers to see the changes that occur within organisms and to use these information in several ways (breeding, genome editing, ..) to increase crop and animals production in Africa.
The Bioinformatics Community of Practice programme will help me to be able to mentor a mass of bioinformatician in the Great lake region (including DRCongo, Rwanda and Burundi), mentors students and researchers in bioinformatics, change the curriculum in the education systems in DRC, help scientists to analyse and get sense out of their data, established a sub-regional bioinformatics centre and a university bioinformatics lab
